Handicaps allow different types of Yachts to race together.
Our system works on average results for a type or style of yacht.
Our committee has records going back 20 years. This data forms the basis of the handicaps awarded.
The handicap your boat is awarded, refers to the time it should take you to sail around a notional course.
The average or base boat will take 100 minutes and will therefore have a handicap value of 100.
Slower boats will be > 100
Faster boats will be < 100
ELAPSED TIME DIVIDED BY HANDICAP MULTIPLIED BY 100
So......
A slow boat which takes 3 hours 23 minutes and 8 seconds,
and has a handicap of 116 =
12188 seconds divided by 116 = 105.06897
multiplied by 100 = 10506.897
divided by 60 seconds = 175.10 minutes
= 2 hours 55minutes and 10 seconds
..... are further penalised by minus 3
so, if your handicap is 99 it will be further reduced to 96.
